Dylan Prep

Dylan Prep was the first recipient of the Tyler Milliken Foundation Scholarship in 2012. He is a life-long resident of Pecan Grove, and a son to Jennifer and Kenneth Prep.

He lettered for two years in football at William B. Travis High School where he started at wide receiver. Dylan played a crucial role for the Travis Tigers during the 2010 season to help overcome odds and win the District 23-5A title. He also started at shortstop for the Tigers varsity baseball team during his years at Travis. Dylan was not only a leader on the field, but also a leader in the classroom. He graduated high school with a 3.9 GPA and as a member of the National Honor Society.

As Dylan advanced to the higher education level, he chose to go to Austin Community College. During his first three semesters, Dylan has maintained a 4.0 GPA taking forty-eight credit hours. He is currently in his fourth semester at ACC, while working tables at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. Dylan has the ambition to transfer to a four year university next semester and just finished putting together his application for McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. He plans to major in finance.

Dylan says he has been impacted greatly by the loss of Tyler. He was quoted saying, “The loss of Tyler has affected me as a person. The situation as a whole has brought me closer to God and has molded my actions while driving. Tyler was as positive of a person that you could meet and I want to live the rest of my life the way he did. I want to thank the foundation, especially Mr. Mark and Mrs. Sheryl, for selecting me as a grateful recipient of the scholarship, and plan to represent the foundation with great honor!”

In His Presence

A grieving father sits in seat 12C at 35,000 feet heading home in response to a tragic accident that has claimed the life of his son. It’s early and as darkness gives way to light, the rising sun cast a bright light above the white puffy clouds protruding from darker clouds below. As the sun continues to rise, I peer back over the wing but can’t actually see the sun, only the bright light. It is so bright! As our descent starts to take us into the clouds below, I’m filled with the Spirit in knowing this wondrous sight is evidence to this “dad” that another Father is in control. My son is in His presence.
